Céilidh

Have a rather dull printout on the fridge, dropped in my letterbox some days ago;  mentioning that there's a "get together" at the "community hall" on the evening of 31st December. BYO booze and CD's for dancing.

Have been in this part of Australia for almost twelve months, and yet to see a permanent cheery face or welcoming smile.

mebbe I've "upset" them in some way or other. dunno, very few of the locals knock on my door, discuss anything with me. The last "discussion" between me and some locals involved physical  "threats".

Might turn up in wescit, floral shirt and dancing shoes; (and thus confirm general local prejudices, whichever) might not.

Ah, have been invited to the small family party round the back. Am taking keyboard, guitar and programmable, redundant,  "Chrissy" lights.  Still pondering whether to turn up at the rather staid "community hall" beforehand .. but methinks, if i take the carefully polished shoes off; walk barefoot -  the party round on the back road will turn out to be a better "Céilidh" .. heh.

For younger people, methinks that sort of translates into "Jam session".

Family gathering sounds far more civilised than the community hall ;)

Dunno yet, Jayne. Have only been here for 11 months. Have watched the "community hall", which was a rather dilapidated building .. move. Somebody here has got arse into gear and repaired it. Not me. I just get inebriated, barefoot and take dog for walkies .. heh.

Don't dare take a camera to the 'community hall" but might sneak in a pic. It's not all that important - just a bit boring.

Please don't "get me wrong". there are three 'dads' around here with very young children.

Perhaps am a bit nostalgic about the one that i sprogged - and never really "held close".

.. and no .. the "son of my loins" did not come from Bernie. she turned up quite late in my life.

Where I come from, the "community hall" was the place everyone went when they knew they'd get too wasted to drive home. Spent many an unmemorable evening at such places ... then again, family gatherings can sometimes be worse.

Thank you, my friend, for sending the Star back northward. We already had one 12-inch snowstorm this week. Knowing things will get better is ... heartening.

mm, dunno Anne .. 22 towns flooded, 20000 people displaced (according to reports). Was nearly going to write - if there's a god out there somewhere - 'back orf!' ..

But perhaps it's only a mere shrug from Gaia ..
