Respect is something others have to earn.

Number 5 son (prodigal) used me today as Phone mediator with his daughters in an effort to reconcile differences and attend Sons Birthday party. Sadly it did not work out
Both parties lacked respect for each other, he in the past the daughters in the present.

My kids and I have the advantage of not respecting each other so I don't have to put up with them.

mm, have to admit that it's a word, and concept, that haven't really thought about in detail. Am now trying to figure out what it means - or indeed, what it might take to "become respectable". An impossible task, methinks.

Davoh : judging from the recent communique from UNOWHO, little exists.

BBC, I think there are two levels of respect. At the first level, it is the basic respect for other humans which one extends to people one does not yet know well enough. the second level is the respect (or lack of) one extends to individuals based upon what we have learned about them.

It goes without saying that if you do not respect another, then you should not expect any in return.

Gerry, my kids are doing everything they can to destroy the planet while complaining that things are not great for them.

And they damn sure don't know how to spend their money in wise ways, they spend more eating out every month than my total monthly income and then complain they don't have enough money.

Cry me a river.

BBC, all I can say is that I'm glad I never became a parent (as far as I'm aware.) I'm sure I would have been a lousy father.

Naughty wicked Gerry has been sowing his wild oats.

Gerry I am sure given the right opportunity you would have become a great father. Finding the great Mother to share the parenting is essential, fortunately I consider myself extremely lucky having found someone as un selfish as my wife Rosemary.

I wasn't a bad father, or a great father, but I did better by my kids than my parents did. Not that my kids will ever recognize that.

And I don't give a shit, we're all just specks of dust in the ruts of space in time behind us as we hurtle toward the future.

Um, this is becoming an interesting discussion. Firstly, will say that that Vest has more (unpublished) information about why i posted this.

BBC, perhaps we are .. specks of cosmic dust - hurtling from cosmic dust into cosmic dust.

However, while am on the third planet revolving around a very small spec in the eternal universe - am human.

Have, and experience, all the passions, desires, angers, failures - that humans have.

What else would you expect?

.. and, on this subject, about the only person - at this time of my life - who i actually, and seriously "respect" is Elizabeth, House of Windsor.

heh.
