life in the old girl yet

Um, has been a long dream of mine - a four wheel drive "bush basher" (in local parlance).

Never had the finance (or status) to purchase what is called a "Toorak tractor" - one of those very expensive, oddly designed, "bells and whistles"' plastic motor vehicles aimed at the "up and coming" younger people with "aspirations".

However, while wandering the local vicinity - found this, hiding in the long grass at the back of someone's yard  -

(oh,just  to clarify a minor point - the motor vehicle is now in my back yard).

She'll scrub up nicely, methinks.

Did you acquire that? If so, do you intend to try to repair it?

If you did acquire it, does the previous owner know?

A check at the RTA might be in order.
Could be prev owmer calculated you would repair his vehicle then claim said vehicle back, however, best of luck.

Oh BTW. you do not need a vehicle or Nag to communicate with Budgewoi.

mm, does the previous owner know .. might be mischievous and say, perhaps.

meh, paperwork, paper work ..

.. but yes, ownership has been transferred by a handshake, and some cash.

Vestie .. long story, i guess - but yes; i do know the previous owner, and am well aware of its history. Am, frankly, astonished that i could get it so cheaply - but hey, sometimes serendipity.

A friend has informed me that even if you give a vehicle away it is deemed to have value. If it is sold or given as scrap it is deemed the spare parts will have value. it may be difficult to get off scot free out of some sort of penalty prescribed by the Govts RMA stone squeezer.
Best of luck.

I once worked for John L Motors as a salesman. One day, if there is a god, she will forgive me. :-)

Gerry worked as a dodgey vehicle flogger in the 'Magic Mile of Motors'or was that Ron Hodgesons mob of dastardly rust bucket dealers.
I worked for AMP for eight months as a legger, was runner up sales person in the two previous months before leaving to purchase a general cleaning contracting business still up and running after 38 years in family hands'
Why leave AMP? because of the devious trickery(Dishonesty at its worst level)
Didn't John L have marital probs and also go to the wall.
The worst cheesy dealer was that geezer from u/k "Up the Windsor road at Baulkham hills and let me do it right for you" slogan. The guy had listening devices to monitor his customers private conversation."who was that bloke"?

You tricked us at first Dave and made it seem like you ran off with it before you explained about the handshake and the cash. Glad to see you've obtained this and are using it to have some adventures. The pics are nice!

New post, in answer to that question, Vestie.

(and as an aside, found another J.E. Macdonnell classic [first published in Australia 1962; Horwitz] while cleaning out the shed - "Away boarders!" .. short, sharp, beautifully, concisely written. Accurately nails the characters aboard Aussie [RAN} destroyers .. heh).

erk, Mahndisa .. your comment seems to have turned up while was writing the response to Vestie.

Apologies .. haven't been to see what you're up to these days, am sort of drifting off into veggie gardens, and not really interested in what happens outside of my small patch - must be a function of age, i guess ... on the other hand - lots of gossip, political intrigue, and a few mysteries here .. but only within walking distance.

Hi John L. [the commenter].
Yep, it's a goodie. Mechanically sound, just a bit of cosmetics and a new windscreen.

Read this salty tale way back.
The 1930's, Persian gulf Royal Navy 6" gun cruiser spots suspicious Dhow suspected of gun running.
Capt orders "Away armed seaboats crew".
The 32'Cutter arrives alongside said Dhow.
The Subby Yells "up the ladder to honour and glory.
On reaching the deck of the dhow, Subby's head is sliced off with a scimitar and lands on the lap of the coxswain,
The coxwain asks "Any more for honour and glory" , Silence prevails, the coxswain orders" Bear of forward".
Later the Dhow is sunk by Gunfire from the Cruiser. fini.

Re,Prev Comment.

Read about it long before 1947 when I was in the boarding crew of HMS Mauritius . Boarded five Illegal immigrant ships heading for Palestine, during the Exodus cock up. Used to get itchy feeling around the neck remembering the Subby in the thirties.
