Have heard it said that 'no news is good news' and, since i don't have TV, very rarely drive into the nearest town to get the "news" papers - have little idea of what's happening in the 'wider' world apart from what i hear on the radio (and peeks at the interwebs). So, will just post some pics of the 'little people' in the vicinity. Have no idea what their 'full', 'accurate', family names are. They've all been around a lot longer than self. Visitors to my house. Pax.

We have things that look similar to that lanky fellow with the question mark. My wife calls them mosquito eater, but who wouldn't eat a mosquito? I don't know if that is their actual name.

Davo, I think the second picture from the bottom would be some sort of caddisfly. They sure do look like giant mosquitos, and they are related to each other, for sure.
The top marigold picture with question mark is some sort of moth... and the 2nd one on the marigolds would be a beetle. There are somewhere areound 50,000 beetles so you can take it from there :)

Hi -- oops, I meant cranefly, not caddisfly. It bugged me for a while and then I looked it up on google using the phrase, "looks like a huge mosquito" and voila.

My wife calls them mosquito eaters. I just looked that up and it said it is a name for the crane fly.
I think that may be the answer.
