Boys toys

[UPDATED  27 dec 2010 -with 'selected' pics from the videotape]

yer, I know - should have bought a whipper snipper (line trimmer?) fer the grass.

But hey, 'tis the season to be self indulgent.

Abbey is/was a bit 'non-plussed'; couldn't quite figure out what the change from habitual  "normal" was all about.
Eventually got the hang of it .. heh.

There's a family (1 male, 1 female, 2 young boys) round the back who kindly let me share a couple of hours with them.  We took their radio controlled boat to the little pond by the  ' recreation space', but boat had a flat battery; and i crashed the helicopter. The really, really young lads played with plastic "bows 'n' arrows".

Then i went to visit the "big pond" (nowhere near "Walden"), fer a bittuva quiet think.

- so, good day all round.  :-D

It sounds like an excellent day. I imagine it requires considerable skill to operate a remote-controlled helicopter: even to crash it. Also to make a Christmas wreath for a dog. That pond to me looks like the little pond. The big pond is the one which separates us.

"Christmas wreath"? Mmm, will have to think about that aspect Vincent .. heh; self thought that she looked quite festive .. and um, yes, there was a considerable volume of liquid 'spirits' involved in that day.

Was also, actually, incorrect when I said that i 'crashed' the helicopter.
Flew it around for several minutes, but took it up to about 30'; at which point it, um, 'got its blades crossed'. Probably out of range of the transmitter. Have the video, where one can see what happened; and the rather poignant "Oh, no .." 'voice over' from Andrew who was operating the camera.

The subsequent 'ground impact' from 30' seriously bent the main rotor shafts. So, is now in the "hangar' undergoing repairs.

Perhaps i should have titled this post "almost big boys toys" since one of the reasons i bought that particular model was the pre-supposition that it would have to be repaired at some point in its history. Will post pics of progress.

Am also, deliberately, keeping pics of 'tats' - tattoos, off this post. They are 'peculiar' to my "westernised" Mediterranean, northern hemisphere" trained; mode of thought.

The notion of "family" is also difficult to understand. My early days were bereft of sibling 'brothers and sisters'.

Would be nice to think of everybody as "family". Brothers and sisters.

um, do not misunderstand. Andrew, the bloke with wife and children - has 'tatts' - i do not.

Am still, essentially, a 'cleanskin' - yet to 'branded' .. heh.

.. into a "tribal" community.

The tricky bit is that do not want to "over-ride" the boy's dad.

"big pond"?? nah Atlantic is small bikies. the "Pacific" is the challenge .. heh.

..and do i miss my "lipsy dipsy' Irish " fractious 'fishwife' of 14 years ..?? Yer. can i mourn, not yet, but 'tis not easy. Can't call her back from the dead.

Davoh said...

..and if the readers think am a bit crazy .. yes, i miss her ..

Davoh said...

she was my grounding, my joy. took along time to find her, but she's dead. In the ground, buried in her homeland - close to the border between north and south Eireland.

Faith of the faithers, long time before Rome.

May the Lord rest her soul. Your concise description is most evocative.

Wot?? NAH Vincent; nobody here knows grief .. just try to win the cricket .. heh

Vincent said...

From what I hear, you need to try harder ...

Davoh said...

Ah, who me? Nah the "harder" bit was long time ago (thankful that noo
two bit teenage husseys had access to internet back then ..eek)

No, I wasn’t suggesting you personally try harder. You have done your bit, paid your dues. I meant you collectively, Australia. In the Ashes.

And I was earlier referring to the Indian Ocean pond, the one which separates us.

Davoh said...

Ah, Vincent - communication is a slippery beast .. hussey

Or this .. there are many .. definitely not cricket .. heh.

So, no sudden architecture popping up from either pond?

Davoh said...

??? architecture ..mm.,, wozzat ..thinks.
