Random thoughts

I was going to give this post the title "Do you see what i see, do you hear what i hear" but it looked a bit long.

Have been a bit busy of late.. but this past week was interesting enough to publish a post.

One of my customers gave me a "christmas present" yesterday - a 6 pack of Homebrew "tallies".

Trouble is, he can't tell me what's in them. Love the guy, customer since 2004 - ancient (oldish), originally from somewhere in Europe [methinks Polish]. Short, gnomish, bald with uncomfortably obvious dent in scalp from a previous brain operation, protuberant belly, always demands immaculate job.

Missed him for a couple of fortnights, as his wife told me he was in hospital for an operation.

Ah, He's back. Throat cancer, he is now but a shell of his former self. Can't speak.

We still try to communicate, we do. I try to ask him what he wants, he looks at me with eyes marinated in despair. He shrugs, lifts his hands, palm up. It will take some time for him to learn how to communicate without speech.

Which brings me back to the six pack. Every other time that he has handed me one as a sort of "bonus"; they've been predictable. Un-labelled, brown-bottle tallies, Light Ale Homebrew - and appreciated.

THIS time .. hoo boy. The first was a sort of Dark Porter. The second was a Light Ale, the third ..sheesh! Was sitting at the computer desk when I opened it.

I think he had a try at 'champagne'. Blew thhe topp off the bottle, and the overflow dribbled down to .. sheesh! .. mad panic run to the kitchen to get the Wettex, Super Soaker paper towels, Instant Squeegee Mop .. whatever.

Must have worked, am still "online" .. heh.

Yeeeess, some of the stories that he was previously able to tell me about his early life would make yer hair turn white .. now? now i have trouble trying to keep my eyes off the yellow plastic hole where his epiglottis should be.
