Ten years of policy changes by the present leadership has begun, unfortunately, to make this picture much more of a reality - for Australia.
What is wrong with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II? Come and join us, BBC, and you can even watch the Trooping of the Colour and the Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace.
Queen Elizabeth II, isn't she just some sort of figurehead? Does she have any real power? I haven't studied that for years so don't recall much about it.
I do know that democracy gives us the governments that we deserve. And that they become too complex and expensive to support.
I dream of barricades in the street, and often wonder just how much crap the Australian electorate will take before they arc-up .... Optus is Singapore owned, Origin Energy is Singapore owned, they let bushfires burn the electricity supply out and paralysed Melbourne on a stinking hot day when nobody was able to use air conditioning or give the kids/dogs/garden any water from a hose ... and no peasants gathered at the steps to Parliament House. bloody hell.

All politicians have schemes, most of them complex, democracy isn't what it is made out to be.
I'd rather live in a good monarchy, not that there is any around.

QE II has had an enormous stabilising effect on Australian politics (can't speak for the rest of the Commonwealth, but presume them too).
The whole discussion over "Republics" vs "Constitutional Monarchy" is long and complex, but I prefer the latter.

Ah, it's pretty much a Republic here. And a damn big mess. And there is too damn many christians here.
Which I find odd, because they don't believe they they are to be ruled by democracy in the end. Oh, hell, they are just frigging crazy.
The peasants are too busy working two or three jobs to have much energy left to go "protesting" in the streets .. heh.
