rent a cell ...?

Yer, i know, odd and inconsistent posts.

have been listening to an ABC Radio National program.
Prisoners in Bolivia.

The idea sounds interesting. Given that "equality under the law" is um, decreasing in the Urgh States of Murrica ..... and ALSO in Australia (which seems to slavishly follow any dingbat Murrican policy these days ...

And since keeping a person in gaol (not counting the gulags on Manus Island and Nauru) seems to be roughly AU$300.00 PER DAY ....
  http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2015/02/02/how-much-does-it-cost-keep-people-australian-jails

How about making them pay for the accomodation? Apparently the Bolivian system work something like this.
You can purchase ... 5 star acccomodation ... or 4 star, or 3 star ... or 'rent a cell'.
Those who cannot afford the rent have to sleep out in the yard with supplied blanket.

Be cheaper than the billions that it costs to keep them ..... meh.

On the other hand ... those who cannot afford to pay for their real prison costs should be 'rented out' as slave labour ...

(this post, of course, does NOT reflect the true opinions of the author ... mehh.)

Ummm, it only costs the taxpayer $40.00 per day (after rent, and not counting food, State taxes, and electricity) to keep me alive ... thinks ...
Apparently criminals are worth considerably more to the taxpayer than i am ...
ahhh, inequality ... heh.
Perhaps i should contemplate becoming a criminal ... wry heh.

Here in the States, there was a guy a few years back who committed some thievery or other just to be thrown in jail so he could get the medical care he needed. (That's not just a tall urban myth, though it sounds like it...)

We also have a private prisons where the companies behind them lobby to keep things like marijuana illegal in order to guarantee bodies for their cells.

But they don't charge the people in the cells. They charge me and other taxpayers.

I'm afraid the idea you're sharing here is going tio give my government ideas...

There's a movie I like called "Lone Star." In it, there's a corrupt white sheriff. He's talking to a young black man, and the sheriff says, "I sent you to jail awhile back. Do you know why?" And the black man answers, "Cotton needed picking, and the man didn't want to pay wages."

Harry , there are times when the Australian PEOPLE would, actually - give some sensible advice to the Pentagon. However, am well aware that the Australian human military are monitoring situations around the conflict zones.
