What is this enigma

 .. called communication.

Why do you consider it an enigma?

And BTW, the enigma machine was a wonderful way to communicate. Well, for a while anyway... :-)

Ah, the "enigma machine".

Don't ask me for the answers .... the 'codes' were changed quite a few years ago.

My telephone and electric bills are both Enigma's.
So am I to other enigmatic persons.

I guess that communicating with each other beats killing each other.

Well, that doesn't seem to be going so well either.

The Forth is a big deal over here, we're right proud that our ancestors came here and killed a bunch of natives for this country so we can set off a bunch of fireworks every Forth of July and be patriotic and all that shit.

But I spent the forth out in a wilderness area with a bunch of beer so I didn't have to put up with all that shit.

Well fuck, I sure did spell it wrong three times, and I don't even give a fuck. But thanks for pointing it out. :-)

Oh well, it can reflect my disdain for the 4th of July.

One thing that really bugs me about coming here is that for some reason this blog captures my browser (Firefox) and won't let me navigate away again, so I have to shut down and restart Firefox everytime I've been here.

Grrrrr... Fix it, Davo !!!

Um, Gerry, I also use Firefox and I don't have any problem getting away from here, maybe you should update your version of Firefox? I'm pretty sure there isn't anything on his blog trying to keep you here.

You may have some malware in your computer also, but that is hardly Davo's fault, pretty sure he wouldn't know how to do that, and wouldn't care to if he did.

You may be right, Bill, but how come this is the only blog I have that problem with?

Is there some evil malware out there written by Davo?

And I do have the latest update of Firefox installed.

I don't think so, he's too peaceful for such nonsense. And too busy living life the best he can while drinking. :-)

Communication is the trick that makes us think we are not alone.

When I speak, I sense that you feel the exact connotations of the words that I intended to impart, which is mostly not possible unless you have my mind to process them, since it was in the context of my own thinking that they were formed.

Then, believing you experienced the thought I "shared," I feel that I was not alone in the thought. Of course, you heard what I "communicated" using your own mechanisms of understanding. I can never know or experience the mood in which they were received and interpreted, how many of my words were dismissed summarily and how many others were transformed into your use of the words and phrases.

That fact does not bother me because in my mind you heard everything, the words, the intonation I intended, the mood, the spirit behind them, and the context in which I thought them. Really, what I communicated could never be identical to what I felt, as only the phrase and a few other context clues were received. My mind stayed with me, alone.

We communicate more than we did once. We say more than "aarryich." However, we say less than we think we do, and that is OK. What's important is that we fool ourselves into thinking we "shared" a thought, instead of what actually happened: we had one thought and inspired another in someone else.

Each of us was trapped in the confines of our own thinking, but we created a valuable illusion.

Either that, or the idea that we created an illusion by attempting to communicate is rubbish, in which case I alone am hallucinating.

Wow, JM: that 'comment' might tempt me to respond (in further detail).

Gerry, you flatter me. Have enough trouble trying to 'understand' this medium of communication - much less "control" it.

TY, BBC.

Am still here Vestie, pottering about in the local area.

Davo, I was joking when I suggested you might have written some malware. It was my way of saying "Well, how come I have this problem only when I come here?"

I still argue that if I have this problem only on your blog and not on any others, then the problem must be somewhere in your blog's source code.

I'd be happy for someone who knows what they're talking about to explain to me why I'm wrong.

In the meantime, that's my take on the situation.

.. and no, will not make this a "link". While yes, i do have a small understanding of the 'language' HTML, prefer the 'spoken'.

Davoh said...

Gerry, while yes, self might 'know' a bit about some things - cannot claim t "know" everything about every thing. Que.

Davoh said...

PS - i didn't write anything on the linked. just thought it important to look at, and take the time to read.

I need to report that you blog is no longer hijacking my browser. Beats me...

Davoh said...

Am pleased to see that, Gerry.

Will try to 'redirect' you whenever i see the need (or have the resources to do so).
