.. and yes: the "mining" exploitation 'enterprises' who were here, locally, between 1860 and 1922 are long gone - "went broke" as far as i can discover. Who is left to 'pick up the pieces'? Restore the damage? Local Councils, i guess. None of whom are actually willing - or indeed - have the 'resources' to repair the damage - though have seen evidence that they are trying.

1922 to 2012 the damage remains evident.

Some pics to illustrate the mining damage might help illustrate a blog post on the subject. Just sayin'...

We've gotten big enough in numbers to harm the climate, doing the things we do. But so few seem to care, cuz they keep doing what they want to do.

Fuck it, mother earth isn't going to miss mankind, we was just an experiment like all other things in nature..

I grew up in a mining area where the creek ran gray. Then it become a super fund clean up site, now they are trying to turn it into a tourist trap.

Gerry, OK, that's a project that interests me ... though have to say that some of it might be difficult to 'illustrate' with photos. There is a 'caveat' on all the land in the 'village' which infers that some of it may be 'contaminated' with arsenic and other toxic chemicals. Buy it at your risk. Doesn't do much for "land value" hereabouts.

Will, however, potter around and take some pics of the signage on the creeks which say - more or less - "Contaminated. Don't drink".

Billy B ... ummm, there are several problems here. The locals have recently formed a "Progress" association. Dunno where they want to 'progress' to .. in some ways i rather like the isolation, and 'the way it is' .. but i don't "own" any of it. It matters not to me whether i 'profit' from it - or not.

Daftest name anyone came up with was the U/K pre 1900 'Progressive Conservatives'. Does not make sense.

Vest; while have given many people the 'impression' that have disappeared into the wilderness in a drunken stupor .... it may, or not, not be so.

Am not dead yet.

It might, or may not; that isn't the point.

Sheesh, Vestie, have just been watching some ancient movies about the 'square riggers'. Ah, thems were the days.

.. and yes, Gerry: I do have some documents from the Bathurst City council. But their 'hands are tied' - much was happening when the "West Mitchell" council had responsibility.

That "Council" no longer exists. que.

..and also yes, Gerry: there are trucks travelling back and forth, recently. Dunno what they are doing, or who is paying: not easy to backtrack, and tell the story with with pics, but might have some.

You also have to consider that it's very small number of people here and am already 'marked' as a "nosey old cunt".

Mostly 'keep my head down' and "face shut". Any attempt by me to 'discover' anything in detail is fraught with further ostracism.
