downsizing

um, have been listening to the radio which informs me that the human population on this planet has been increasing; exponentially.

When 'businesses' have a problem with 'debt', they tend to "downsize" (or adapt, but that's a different concept ..heh)

mm, OK, for those who believe that "technology" will "save the planet" there is always "genetic manipulation".

How about we introduce a world-wide scheme to reduce the size and height of human beings .. progressively, of course. We begin by introducing some sort of chemical into the watersupply which induces all future births to produce humans with a maximum height of 3ft (or one metre - depending on which country accepts metric measurement; ok, so some people in the North American continent might end up slightly shorter than Europeans and others - but that might be beneficial).

Think of the benefits. Half the land usage, half the size of everything humans do.  Why stop at 9 billion human beings - we could fit double that number on the planet.

Three foot humans? It is a good idea. We could have smaller beds, eventually. I think it is too little, too late. I am thinking 3 inch humans may do the trick.

Do we have that technology? Let's just colonize Mars.

um, am not sure whether humans with three feet is a good idea. However, i did mention 'progressively'. We - or the 'developed' societies, at least; have - or soon will have - an oversupply of old elderly humans - and doubt whether the "Logan's Run" legislation will be all that popular .. and since NASA has run out out funding, doubt whether the "terraforming" and "colonisation" of Mars is a valid economic option in the near future ....

.. unless Washington and the Kremlin (and a few others) can come to some sort of collaboration about who funds "outer space exploration" can't really see that happening in the near future - especially since the people in Washington have trouble co-operating and collaborating within themselves .. heh.

All the idiots who drownin the shallow end of the gene pool will decrease the number of hoomans on this planet...just give 'em a push and see if they float ;)

Retooling for all things mechanical would be an immense problem. Also fifty centimetres tall toddlers would become prey for huge ginger toms and canines as tall as grown humans.
That is assuming only humans are to be Tom Thumbs.

Given a great deal of thought, it would probably bring more problems than it would solve.

Alas, you are probably right, Davoh. Colonizing Mars is probably an unrealistic goal. I guess will have to stick to reducing the size of your average human to three feet as our solution after all.

Anonymous, that comment made no sense whatsoever. I can see why you posted it with the "Anonymous" label.

Mr Myste .. first things first. This is MY blog, i may well 'recognise' occasional comments labelled "Anonymous" - it might be ME, if i forget how to 'sign in' to this version of "Bloogger command" (it's not) ..and if it's who i think it is - well done; cryptic; my 'education' and experience was once extensive - but didn't extend into the Northern hemishere much ... heh.

Vestie - re-tooling? that may well be the point. The really really BIG trees may well be left to their own growth; armoured tanks battling sand grains the size of rocks; "lawns" being manicured by chainsaw. And yes, far greater respect for 'pussycats' and canines - not to mention being at roughly the same height as a kangaroo.

Jayne, mmm; we are as we are ..

Gerry .. Nanohumans? Nah. While yes, the recent human race may well behave as a virus, attempting to survive at that level will probably push quick 'adaptation' beyond the concepts of most. There is, yes tribal and conceptual warfare among humans - while yes, we may survive the "War of the Worlds" ... heh ...we would never survive the "war of the viruses".

Davoh,

Mr Myste .. first things first. This is MY blog

Thanks for clarifying that. I have wondered whose blog it was for some time now, but I was just too shy to ask.

Davoh said...

.. and yes .. in the interest for those actually interested in 'by the way facts' - there are a couple of "miniature" (i.e. 'half size') horses in the next paddock.

Davoh said...

Mr Myste .. OK, it's not actually "MY" blog. It's actually 'owned' by a corporate entiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiity.
