racism

um, according to my dictionary the suffix '-ism' denotes an 'abstract'.

mmm, OK. Races. Have to admit that i won two pewter cups for the 100 yard dash while at senior school some time ago. Have, over time, placed wagers on the four legged animals. Am guessing that can be accused of 'racism', but who's trying to "win"?

If the epithet 'racism' is applied into human beings thinkings, and relationships, as am presuming it might be; let's get real words into the discussion ..  'bigotry', 'ignorance', 'prejudice', 'intolerance'.

I agree with you. Racism has become misused as often as it is used correctly. Bigotry has a real meaning. Intolerance has a real meaning. Racism is supposed to mean “hating someone because of their race,” but that is not really how it is used. I wish I remembered what I did with it: I wrote an essay arguing that I am a racist (because of how the term is used). It was a long time ago.

I am not the horrible thing most people mean when they say "racist," or I hope I am not.

Hmmm. I think I called it "The Modern Racist." That still does not help, though. I don't remember where I posted it and I don’t have a copy on me.

.. and just to clarify my own thinking on that word, in the wider sense - there is only one 'race' that interests me; the human race, toward extinction.

.. oh, add one more .. indoctrination.

Hello Davoh. I've come via Blak and Black, where I assist Bakchos. I won't go into discussion about the root source of the word "racism", but I agree that the term has not only been incorrectly used, but as a result, in modern times, had it's original meaning changed (in much the same way that the word "gay" has changed since I was a child).

Another term that could be applied is xenophobia, but even that doesn't completely encompass what is simply bigotry borne of ignorance and a sense of self-righteousness!
