pissed off!

Interesting expression, this one, and has many meanings according to context. "Pissed", in the Australian vernacular, generally means "drunk" - as in "jeez, he/she was pissed last night", "pissed as a newt (or parrot)", "crissed as a picket" (pissed as a cricket) - though how animals and birds came into the association eludes me (but if anyone has seen a flock of parrots which have just made a feast of fallen fruit might link those two .. heh) - so there is some confusion with the USA expression "pissed(with)" which seems to be the equivalent of our "pissed off (with)" which apparently means frustrated (or resigned) anger or annoyance.

There is also the association with "go away"; as in "piss off" or "piss him off".

Perhaps it has something to do with "expulsion" or the perceived pain of rejection.

So, apart from being a bit pissed off by being pissed off from work, am also pissed off by something that happened - or more correctly, DIDN'T happen this morning.

Had long been keen to upgrade my Video Editing program, which has been - still is - cheaply available as a download - especially since the US dollar is close to parity with AUD. Aha, think i, now have some time to devote to editing some of the footage that has been languishing on tape (both Hi8 SDV, and HDV minitape) so will purchase and download the update program in the wee small hours of this morning when all is quiet and few other people will be occupying the WiFi bandwidth.

And so, at 5am, duly clicked all the buttons, transferred the 90 or so bucks as my contribution of support for the faltering US economy, and received the "download" codes and URL via email, as per usual.

The download begins. Now, while the WiFi connection is listed as being Megawhatsis speed - the actual download speed was around 25-40 KILObytes per second. It doesn't take a mathematical genius to figure out that a file size of 456 MEGAbytes is going to take 3-4 (give or take) HOURS!

All went well, for a while. In fact, the most frustrating thing was that had downloaded 70% of it when all went ... zilch. Lost the connection.

Funny how synchronicity happens. Like minds think alike. Was having a chat to the Park Manager this morning at about 9.30, and mentioned the problem. "oh", he says "I rebooted the whole system at about 6.30am. Didn't think anyone would be awake at that time on a Sunday morning."

GAAAAH!!

Also, just now, at this point while writing this post – lost the connection again. "Wireless network not connected" and “could not connect to Blogger. Saving and posting may fail”. Yer ... wellllll .... lucky i had the presence of mind to quickly “copy” the text and save it to my wordprocessor.

Just goes to show ... Now – am REALLY pissed orf! NEVER trust a computer or any of these “newfangled” methods of communication. Will repeat my old refrain – if ya wanna communicate with me .. STAND ON ME DOORSTEP!

(and if ya wanna fight – come naked. Would solve a heck of a lot of problems if people who wanted a war were forced to do it naked, in public view, and empty-handed .. heh).

(and no, haven't included my penis - which is quite "normal", thank you; average, and has performed - still does - every function that it was designed to do. Irrelevant - in this context.)
