Random and inconsistent snippets from an unstructured mind. My truth may not be your truth. A fact is a fact only by standing on it.
It can't fall down, there is nothing holding it up...
Except some sort of capitalist exploitation. The writer is a 3rd generation Indigenous Australian. Not, i might add, Aboriginal - two different concepts.
Ah, this is an interesting argument. For everyone to speak the same language would be an imperial aggression on the part of the countries whose language is being adopted.
It does happen that more and more do speak English, not because of any "should" but because it carries a certain advantage. Everyone looks for that, and those who zealously preserve dying languages other than their own can easily be seen as middle-class do-goodery.
But language is much of the soul of a people. At University I studied Provencal, a dead language similar to French. It was my wish as a boy to study ancient Greek, but I never got the chance.
I hope that native speakers of dying languages will fight against the forces of anglophile imperialism.
Bbc I usually read all your blog posts and appreciate them greatly, though hardly ever adding any comment. None is necessary from me. But "progress"? What direction is progress? We have rather too much of that. I would like to go backwards in a great number of things. Maybe soon we'll have to anyway.
Vincent, as you are aware, there is no way that I , or anyone else can truly understand the plight of the locals ..in Iraq, Timor Leste or anywhere else - UNTIL WE COMPREHEND the language.
Look you fucking idiot. If we all spoke the same language it would be a lot better. So don't you give me that "I'm an arrogant son of a bitch bullshit".

Hum, the blog with the Living Timorously post doesn't allow comments by anyone other than team members.
The next post down spoke about languages.
Everyone on this planet should be speaking the same language, it would make it easier for everyone to communicate and understand each other.
Everyone defending their language is just nonsense, they just set back progress.
Billy B, forgive me, AT THIS POINT am assuming that you are just another arrogant stupid, self indulgent american arsehole.
And at this point, there is no thing, no intelligent words from you on this site that convinces me otherwise. Tuff tit.
