Confusion shall be my epitaph

[OK, the post title is pinched from a track on one of those big, old, circular black thingos called an LP - "In the Court of the Crimson King" .. King Crimson. An LP that I still have, and also the equipment to actually HEAR it .. doncha just luuurve us old un-reconstructed "20th Century" schizoid men?]

Nevertheless, am confused. Have just heard Mick Keelty on radio in full "damage control". He says that it was the DPP who twisted um, mis-presented the evidence on Dr. Haneef, not them.

Dunno enough about it to get really stroppy, but "Keystone Kops" is gaining traction around the traps.

In any case, ARE THEY TRUSTWORTHY?

Trustworthy enough to set up and operate a 1200 strong Paramilitary Force? .. a crack "National Republican Guard",with "latest weaponry" and "armoured personnel carriers"?? Mandate would allow a rapid "blue uniform" presence during civil unrest???

Whoa there.. not so fast.

Here's me still thinking that i live in Australia.

The other day I watched the film Gallipoli and it made me understand Australia better, or rather the Anzacs. There was no rational explanation why the young men should have gone to get themselves killed in someone else's war but there were plenty of other explanations and they all became clear in the movie. And you will know, Davo, why I found it moving.

We're a weird Mob, Vincent.

Hi Davo - re:
"allow a rapid "blue uniform" presence during civil unrest ... "

I love a good euphemism.
'civil unrest' is right in there with 'disturbing the peace' and 'collateral damage' and my favorite 'canisters' is what BAESystems calls the BOMBS they make.

Civil unrest can of course, be A Good Thing.
The last time we tried it was December 1854 when the goldminers on Ballaarat got jack of the soldiers confiscating their hooch while inspecting their Mining Licences, and planned revenge.

Many miners died after the
'rapid blue uniform presence'
but one of the outcomes was that the lower classes became able to own their own homes.
"Miner's Rights".

mm, Bwca, the Ballaarat miners only had muskets and gunpowder to contend with. Am still bloody angry about this Federal "paramilitary" bit .. the state police can handle any "civil unrest". oh, yes, they'll claim 'only for overseas deployment' but that is CRAP! Escalation from NOTHING! whadda they expecting ? !! Bloody ridiculous .. no necessity!
