Perhaps the greatest defense of weeds is contained in the last stanza of Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem Inversnaid:"What would the world be, once bereft,of wet and wildness? Let them be left.O let them be left; wildness and wet;Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet."
which comes from an interesting article on Wikipedia. A 'weed' is only vegetation in an 'inappropriate place' buuuut .. who decides?
so, will just post some pics, and make it a game called "Spot the weeds" ...
..but really have to do something about these .. |
yep, had to put a fence around this lot to keep 'em in .. heh |
At what point does the seed of a weed become a need?
(the acacia decurrens by the post is going well) |

Oh little rose bush, bloom!
Summer is nearly over.
The dahlias bleed,
and the phlox is seed.
Nothing is left of the clover
And the path of the poppy no one knows.
I would blossom if I were a rose.
In the depths of my winter I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer
Nice photos. Did you take them all, and when? The yellow in the penultimate one looks very much like oilseed rape which flowers here about May.
Did i take them all? .. yep.

Pic 9 (farm fields)- would have been a couple of years ago when I was in South Australia, probably early summer (November) .. and we're a bit more 'sensitive' (politically correct?) about the name of the plant with yellow flowers .. we call it 'canola'.
Pic 10 last week.
have two cameras. The 4:3 format are from a Fuji finepix S5600, 5.1 Mp; and the 16:9 format are from a Canon HV20 digital video camera (which also takes some interesting 'still' pics as can pretty well focus down to about 1mm).
.. or i might just fiddle with formats.
