I'm a sook

Went to vote for state elections today. Stood in line at 8.30am. Figured out who I wanted to vote for (long story) .. and almost cried. I trust the Electoral Commission, nobody blew us up, nobody got dead.

Just a normal, if inconvenient, process. Told the usher , "dunno why am here, they're all the same." He grinned. Sat at the table where my name and address is registered, said to the lady who asked my name, "There's only one of me in (wherever I live), dunno why I'm here, Is this a ploy to pin me to my address? Prefer not to vote, it only encourages them." She grinned, put a mark against my name, I put a mark on the papers, dropped them in the box, and went off to work.

I wept because this is so "normal".

Aren't we fortunate! And there's a bloke by the name of Minchin in your state who says we don't have to do it if we don't want to! Thing is - that's the system the Yanks have which means most US Presidents do not have the vote of the majority of Americans. Great system, huh - no wonder they end up with the likes of dubbya.

Yep, we Yanks go and vote, and if the Man doesn't like the way we've voted, they cook the books and put the guy they want in there. They say the machines malfunctioned.

Yeah, right. Then how come the traffic signals work right, and the bridge toll booths?

I vote in Massachusetts...its what I'd call a political gesture [perhaps involving the use of just one finger] as it hasn't had any noticable effect.

and, as Ms Johnson says, we don't necessarily get who we vote for anyway.
And then to top it off the idiot in chief pays no attention to the laws and the congress pays no attention to his inattention.

On the other hand would I know how to make an intelligent choice betwean Beazley and Howard? Isn't that an oxymoron? How'd you Aussie's rate an oxymoron, all we yanks got was a plain old moron!
