BLACKOUT!

Anger is an interesting emotion.

Once upon a time.. as all good Fairy stories go .. ETSA looked after the interests of the populace.

State Government funded, we each contributed. As
time went by, and the washington concept of ' free market' gained ground ETSA was ' sold off'.

Now ETSA (who owns and tries to maintain the network of supply and lines.. is struggling) .. We have CHOICE!!!. mm, last night, three hours later, tried to phone the 'company' who sends me the bill. No answer.

Wandering around with a torch. Light several candles and kero lamps. Dig analogue phone out of cupboard. Try friend's number written in diary (read by torchlight) AAAArgh! it works!

Have long conversation.

And you dickheads wonder why Calligraphy is an irrelevant Art

One of the interesting things about posting from a variety of countries. I presume that ETSA has something to do with the electricity, the phones, or the gas but in fact I don't know what in the heck you're talking about. It is a little like an early Albee play.

Lotta that "selling the roads because govt cant make a profit" going on here.

Internet is the next thing to get more "market driven" to use the parlance of the greedy.

In my little town, the power company has merged and changed hands 4 times in 20 years...there are just a few hold-out towns that still put up their own poles and string their own wires. My town, on the other hand is against development or spending any money so they agree to disagree with the power company about who is responsible for triming the stately [but sometimes rotten] oaks that overhang the wires. Comes a good nor'easter and we loose power. two weeks ago, as my freezer began to defrost 12 hours into an outage, I'd had enough. Went down to the building supply store, bought a 8000 watt generator and rigged up a crude but effective cut-over arrangement. Didn't lose anything in the freezer but I did lose some sleep 'cause the generator is bloody loud.

Power company can go jump in a ditch for all I care.

My 'Psycho' moment was being in the shower when the lights went out.

Candles and matches in every room now.
Instead of an expensive torch in the bedroom, a party glowstick which lasts for ages.
