WORDS
Words
swirl and swarm through society
like insects.
Some bite -
bloodsucking the mind.
Some words buzz
like bees,
cross-pollinating ideas.
Others crawl like beetles
across the grass
crass, and black backed,
necessary pests,
for in absence -
Void.
Some flutter by like butterflies
spreading colour and joy.
But always
amid species, phylum, faction,
at word’s end
all that counts
is action.
swirl and swarm through society
like insects.
Some bite -
bloodsucking the mind.
Some words buzz
like bees,
cross-pollinating ideas.
Others crawl like beetles
across the grass
crass, and black backed,
necessary pests,
for in absence -
Void.
Some flutter by like butterflies
spreading colour and joy.
But always
amid species, phylum, faction,
at word’s end
all that counts
is action.

by words, may I assume you include assemblages of words into more complex ideas? some words, like "why" are a one word wrecking crew, a communicable mental illness all by themselves. However, most of the thoughts that snap into place and lodge in minds like a virus finding the receptor molecule on its preferred host cell are bigger than one word. Usually they need to be much bigger, the better to hide their poison.
I do like the poem.
BTW, sister novena points us to a facility for making our own church marquees should the collection of cleric's errors lack the size and style of shoe you hope to find in the church's mouth.
Hi Davo, one of our local savior houses put out a sign about this time last year
"Avoid the Christmas rush, Shop Early"
"Jesus Saves....
Everybody else uses Mastercard"
Greensmile .. now "why" did you write that? heh heh heh.
